Organizers of this year’s Thunder in the Highlands don’t give up very easily. After being postponed last month because of a rogue bear and scorching heat and dryness, the Police Athletic League will put on the annual fireworks display on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the former site of Jungle Habitat.

“Pending township approval we are moving forward with the Sept. 4 date and Sept. 5 will serve as our rain date,” said Bill Hemstead, who is coordinating the event. “Since this is the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, we plan to get things started a bit earlier in the day at around 4:30 or 5 p.m.”

While the fireworks begin after dark, the festivities begin in the late afternoon. For more information, go to www.thunderinthehighlands.com. This Web site will be updated as information becomes available. — From the West Milford Messenger
